Change of use plans for Edinburgh St James street

A HANDSOME-looking parade of shops is being proposed for part of a street on the western edge of the Edinburgh St James development (currently under construction), to replace already operating student accommodation.

A planning application has been made to replace the student accommodation on James Craig Walk.

Says a covering letter submitted in the application (here), the hope is for a “change of use from student accommodation to Class 1 (shops), Class 2 (financial, professional and other services), and/or Class 3 (food and drink) and Class 7/hotel uses, proposed alterations, erection of shopfronts and associated works” at 27, 29, 31 James Craig Walk.

The developers are investment managers, Nuveen Real Estate, and the application has been submitted by their agents, Avison Young.

Reports the magazine and website, Urban Realm (here), the architects are LDN Architects.

The story is also reported by The Herald newspaper reporter, Brian Donnelly, here.
