To kick off, there are a couple of roundabouts at the Lothianburn junction on the Edinburgh by-pass. Not much biodiversity in evidence, unless you consider discarded cans and drinks bottles as part of the eco-system. Various local authorities allow roundabouts to be sponsored, to fund their upkeep. Fife, North Tyneside, to name just two…. There is even a website worth taking a look at: http://www.sponsorthisroundabout.com

A couple more, to add to the catalogue: down in Leith, Stevedore Place: just a strip of grass, about 15m wide and 150m long. Suspect not much of a destination for the neighbouring apartments, though, on a sunny day, probably attractive enough. By contrast, check out the roundabout at the foot of Broughton Street and the traffic island just to its north. All planted up: beautiful.
