Key city streets less polluted, finds study

SOME of Edinburgh’s usually most congested streets have undergone a dramatic drop in pollution, a study has found.

Benefitting from the lockdown response to the Coronavirus pandemic, the streets include St John’s Road, Corstorphine, Nicolson Street (pictured), and Queensferry Road.

The study was carried out by engineering and environmental consultancy, Ricardo plc, with the story reported by Ian Swanson, in the Edinburgh Evening News newspaper, here.

Says the study: nitrogen dioxide levels in St John’s Road have fallen by 68 per cent and those in Nicolson Street and Queensferry Road by 61 per cent, compared with normal readings before the pandemic.
