Relocation reported from Grade A listed building

THE Grade A listed ‘Scottish Widows’ building near Holyrood Park is reportedly to be vacated, reports the Edinburgh Evening News newspaper.

Writes Conor Matchett (here), Scottish Widows – which is involved in pensions, life insurance and investments – is set to leave its Sir Basil Spence-designed office on Dalkeith Road after nearly 45 years.

According to a summary of listed post-war buildings in Edinburgh, produced by Scottish Government heritage agency, Historic Environment Scotland (here), the building was constructed between 1972 and 1976.

In a separate Evening News article (here), some readers have reacted with dismay to the imminent departure of Scottish Widows from the iconic building, with many fearing it might become a hotel or student accommodation.
